Help in English available this year

This is the time of the year when tax forms are sent out to every household in the canton. It is a tedious business but this year there is some extra help available in English on the tax office’s website.

The forms sent out to private households relate, of course, to income received over the course of 2016. Last year as many as 80% of householders actually completed their returns for the previous year electronically, and the software to be able to do this for last year can now be downloaded on www.zg.ch/tax, the information required having to be sent in by 30 April. However, if it is not possible to adhere to this deadline, then it is possible to apply for an extension, also online.

According to the canton, the menu navigation of the site is easy to follow. Furthermore, appropriate information which is still relevant can also be easily transferred from last year’s tax return. Any fields left incomplete will be highlighted to avoid taxpayers inadvertently omitting any pertinent information. Once complete, they can then be printed off and, along with the necessary forms requiring a signature, sent off to the appropriate office.

The e.tax.zug software is continually being upgraded to make the whole procedure more easy, in fact a pdf version is also available if required. In addition, information is also available in English this year and this can be found by clicking on “English sites” on the tax office’s (Steuerverwaltung) website.

Anyone having technical difficulties can get help by calling 043 501 00 05 between 8.30 am and noon and 1.30 pm and 5.30 pm from Monday to Fridays, or through helpdesk.zg.@information-factory.com.

Furthermore, telephone assistance in relation to specific tax matters will be available between 2pm and 6 pm during the week between Monday 6 March until Friday 10 March, with the appropriate telephone number indicated at the top of form K.
