Geistlich Pharma to set up new subsidiary

As many locals will know, Root is actually in the canton of Lucerne but less than 2 kilometres from the border with Zug. It is from here, as well as from another plant in Wolhusen, also in the canton of Lucerne, that the Geistlich Pharma AG company runs its pharmaceutical business.

Bearing in mind the cluster of pharmaceutical companies based just over the cantonal border in Zug, it was thought appropriate to report that this family-owned business, which was founded in 1851, is about to set up a subsidiary company, Geistlich Pharma Australia PTY Ltd, in Sydney, from where it will serve is clients in both Australia and New Zealand from 1 January 2015.

The company already has eight subsidiaries, employs a workforce of 400 and sells products all over the world through its 50 distribution partners.

It specialises in developing, producing and marketing medical products for the regeneration of bone, gristle and soft tissue in addition to manufacturing other medicines.

Its products relating to bone replacement and membranes are already among the most sold in Australia and New Zealand and, with the setting up of a company in Sydney, the company intends to benefit from greater proximity to its customers there, not least by providing specialised advice for dentists on the subject of regenerative medicine.

There has been evidence of strong growth in the Antipodes in this area for some time and, with its new company presence, the Geistlich Group hopes this will be both sustained and expanded.
