Free beer to be enjoyed

The local Brauerei Baar will be giving out free beer for a couple of hours on Friday 24 April on the occasion of the Day of Swiss Beer, which has been celebrated since 2012.

Between the hours of 4 pm and 6 pm all are invited to attend and taste their products on the brewery premises at number 41 Langgasse in the municipality (main photograph). In order to ensure the occasion goes with a swing, a brass band from Oberrüti in the canton of Argovia will be playing (second photograph).

The Day of Swiss Beer was initiated to mark the 135th anniversary of the setting up of the Swiss Brewers' Association, to which 16 companies with 18 breweries belong, including our local brewery in Baar. In all, these breweries produce over 97% of all the beer brewed in Switzerland,

The Brauerei Baar was founded at its present location in 1862 and was bought in 1902 by Johann Georg Buck, whose great-grandson, Kurt Uster, runs it today. Fifteen years ago, Kurt's son, Martin, also joined the company and he currently works there as head of sales and marketing; hence he is a member of the fifth generation of the family to do so.

In 2007 the brewery won first prizes in competition among small breweries for its dark Hopfemandli lager and its lighter Erdmandli ale.
