Frauenzentrale Zug – 40th Anniversary

The Frauenzentrale or Women’s Centre, Zug is celebrating their 40th anniversary this year.  The Frauenzenrale Zug has always been active in providing services and support for men and women in Zug, often even before a legal basis has existed.  The people of the canton of Zug, meaning not only women but men, youth and children as well – would be much worse off if there wasn’t the Frauenzentrale of Zug because without them, an important institution would be missing.

The Frauenzentrale Zug  is organized as an association and is an non political and non-religious (neutral) Non-Profit-Organization. Under the auspices of the association both professional employees and volunteers are active in three areas:

  • The FraueNetz (Women’s Network):  Giving support to women so that they may develop their talents in society, politics     and commerce
  • eff-zett  das fachzentrum - expert centre – currently comprised of ten specialized departments where persons in difficult situations can get advice and help as well as parenting classes dealing with current topics.  Some of the offers are municipal, cantonal or federal mandates and others are explicitly for women.
  • The Brockenhaus or Thrift shop generates a substantial amount of money through sales of used goods and builds the backbone for financing the Frauenzentrale Zug.  The thrift shop also provides an important social value, offering inexpensive goods and meaningful recycling of wares to the public as well as offering volunteer helpers a social network.

Without volunteers, there would not be a Frauenzentrale.  Times change and flexibility is needed to keep up with society.  The Frauenzentrale depends on the commitment and dedication of individuals, be it financial support, volunteer work in the thrift shop or honorary functions on the board, on committees or in work groups.  Without volunteer and honorary helpers the Frauenzentrale Zug would not be possible.
