Four people slightly injured in three separate road traffic accidents

A 48-year-old woman sustained slight injuries last Friday after the vehicle she was driving was involved in a head-on collision with another car, whose driver was looking to eat at the wheel.

The incident happened shortly after 7 am near the Restaurant Kreuz on Artherstrasse (main photograph) as a 52-year-old heading in a northerly direction to Zug thought he might eat at the wheel. This led him to become distracted and veer on to the wrong side of the road, leading to the head-on collision and the driver of the other car, as mentioned, sustaining injuries, for which she was treated in hospital. Fortunately, the hungry driver was not injured at all.

According to the police, damage to the tune of CHF 20,000 was caused. Furthermore, the incident meant other vehicles were subject to an alternating one-way traffic-flow for some time afterwards.

In a second road traffic incident later that day, an articulated lorry containing 24 tonnes of fuel parked at petrol station in Sihlbrugg suddenly rolled 70 metres backwards onto Zugerstrasse. Fortunately, no-one as injured and only minor damage was caused.

It was as the driver got out of his cabin that the vehicle began to roll backwards, crossing both carriageways of Zugerstrasse, knocking over a tree and causing damage to the tune of CHF 4,000, before coming to a standstill on grass (second photograph).

When the police subsequently interrogated the 50-year-old driver about the incident, it was clear he was under shock, bearing in mind what could have happened. He now faces prosecution.

Police are aware a number of drivers stopped to take photographs of the incident and they have since appealed to them to make them available to the police for examination, initially by calling them on 041 728 41 41.

In a further accident on Saturday evening, three people were lucky to escape with slight injuries only after the driver lost control over his vehicle on Aegeristrasse in Baar.

The incident happened shortly before 8.30 pm as the 58-year-old driver was heading towards Talacher. It was when he arrived at the section where road works are being carried out that the car came off the road and fell down an embankment, turning over as it did so but fortunately ending up in an upright position (third photograph). In addition to the driver, two women passengers, aged 81 and 54, also sustained slight injuries and were taken to hospital

For some time following the incident Aegeristrasse had to be closed to traffic in both directions. Police are still investigating the precise cause of the accident, in which the car involved was totally written-off.
