Former German president appointed consultant

The former president of the Federal Republic of Germany, Christian Wulff, has taken up an appointment with the Corestate Capital AG company, which has its headquarters in Baarerstrasse in the city.

According to information on the website of this property and asset management company, "Wulff's work in this new position relates to extending our international network and providing legal advice to the board in questions relating to regulation and global trends in particular".

It is clear that, having been prime minister of the state of Lower Saxony and then president of Germany between 2010 and 2012, the 56-year-old has access to a wide network of important decision-makers in the areas of politics and economics across the globe.

Indeed, in his own words, Wulff said that his comprehensive international experience provided him with valuable contacts to numerous economic associations and stakeholders in potential target markets.

Not that this is a recent appointment; it seems the lawyer actually took on this new role in February.

After his resignation as president in 2012 following charges of acceptance of benefits while in public office,  of which he was subsequently cleared, Wulff was succeeded by Horst Seehofer of Bavaria for an interim period of one month before the current German president, Joachim Gauck, was elected. Wulff then set himself up in private practice as a lawyer in Hamburg.

Corestate Capital employs some 250 staff and operates from offices in London, Frankfurt, Madrid, Luxemburg and Singapore in addition to Zug.
