Following on from the success of "SF bi de Lüt"
Following the success of the TV programme "SF bi de Lüt" with over 548,000 viewers at a peak time, the tourist office is hoping for renewed interest in the city and the region.
"The programme showed the city in a very good light and a different light," said Urs Raschle, head of the tourist office. "It managed to show people there is much more to Zug than company headquarters and low taxes."
While the matter of the canton's wealth was not omitted from the programme, (local children were shown carrying enormous mock bars of gold into a huge safe), Raschle explained that the canton's real capital lay in its lake, sunsets, cherries, beautiful surroundings and EVZ, to name but a few of its attractions.
Naturally it is hoped the success of the programme will mean increased numbers of visitors. "The "SF bi de Lüt" live broadcast was a marvellous advert for the town and we would like to see more visitors at the weekends. During the week the hotel rooms are often occupied by businessmen," Raschle continued.
Mayor Dolfi Müller was quite pragmatic. "We cannot be more than we really are," he said, "and one TV programme does not mean sustainable interest - but it was a good appetiser."
Cooperating with the Zurich tourist office has indeed shown that culinary specialities are very important in marketing a region which is why a further cherry campaign could be significant. Whether this will ever mean a free piece of cherry torte on the pillow in the hotel room or a free tot of Kirsch as a nightcap remains to be seen...
