Five employees under investigation for manslaughter

Five employees of the Meissenberg Clinic in the city are currently under investigation for manslaughter after it was alleged a female patient was given the wrong medicine and subsequently suffocated.

The allegations were made on the website of the weekly "Handelszeitung" economic journal on Wednesday and a spokesman of the Zug Prosecution Service confirmed that investigations were under way and that they had already been ongoing for one year. The clinic, which is on Meisenbergstrasse, declined to comment on the matter.

The Klinik Meisenberg is a psychiatric and pyschotherapeutic specialist clinic for women. It was founded in 1926 and it was originally run by the Sisters of the Holy Cross of Menzingen but since 1999 it has been a subsidiary of the Bad Schinznach AG company.

In addition to treating patients with acute types of psychiatric disorders, it also treats those suffering from depression, anxiety and other stress-related disorders such as problems relating to emotion regulation.

It was only 13 months ago that the clinic was in the headlines after it was discovered a woman from Germany wrongly purporting to be a doctor was working there. What is more, and as previously reported in the Zug Post, she had already been engaged as a doctor in a number of Swiss hospitals. The Bavarian woman had only been working at the clinic in Zug on night duty for a few months before it was found out she was not qualified.

Speaking at the time, the director of health in the canton, Urs Hürlimann, said "internal checks made at the clinic have been effective which is why legal steps have been undertaken".
