FDP party calls for lake-side building to be used as a restaurant

There is much discussion at present about the future use of the attractive lake-side building on Seeplatz known as the Studenhütte.

At present the building is used by the Ägeri Sailing Club but the local council has terminated its contract with them, much to the club’s dissatisfaction. Indeed, the club is to contest the council’s decision in this respect, with arbitration talks arranged through the canton planned for March.

Speaking in his capacity as councillor in the municipality, Peter Staub said, “It is not that we want to close the door on the club. I hope that we might be able to work out a solution prior to next month’s talks and one which meets with the approval of locals, of course.

Longstanding residents of Oberägeri will know that plans for a re-configuration of Seeplatz have been going on for some years. While one ambitious project costing CHF 11.6 million was rejected in 2011, another slimmed-down one costing CHF 3.6 million was approved in 2014.

In autumn of last year, the council presented its plans to all clubs and societies involved with the Studenhütte, including a youth group which also meets up there. It was on this occasion that plans for a kiosk on the northern side of the building were put forward by the council but the FDP party felt this would not be in the interests of the majority of residents and are calling instead for it to be used as a restaurant, with the garden area to the lake-shore side of the building able to be used by diners.

The location of the current “Sunneschmatz” kiosk was regarded as being provisional, i.e. for three to four years only, way back in 2006. Now it looks as if temporary in this case means 12 years at least, with no major changes taking place with regard to use of buildings on Seeplatz until next year at the earliest.
