Driver travels on the motorway at only 70 km/h

Police spotted a driver travelling on the motorway at a very low speed and in an unsafe manner. After a positive quick drug test, he was banned from driving throughout Switzerland and his car was impounded.

In the night from Monday to Tuesday, shortly before 12:30 a.m., a police patrol on the A4 motorway near Küssnacht noticed a car driving towards Rotkreuz at a speed of 70 km/h and being driven in an unsafe manner. Zug police report that the officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver did not react to either the front or the rear "Stop Police" sign, and continued driving. He also drove over the demarcated area at the Blegi junction, and almost crashed into the crash barrier there. The driver was finally stopped at the motorway service area in Affoltern am Albis.

While the breath alcohol measurement was negative, the rapid drug test was positive. According to the Zug police, the 56-year-old Italian had been driving his car under the influence of medication. The man refused to provide the blood and urine sample ordered by the public prosecutor's office in the Canton of Zug.

The offending driver has now been banned from driving in Switzerland, and his vehicle has been impounded by the police.
