Covid certificate obligation now applies at the 2001 Zug Massacre commemoration

A ecumenical commemoration event In memory of the events of 27 September 2001 will take place in the Church of St. Michael on Monday, 27 September 2021. Only those who have tested negative, recovered or vaccinated will be granted access. The event will also be broadcast via livestream.

27 September 2021 marks the 20th anniversary of the 2001 attack in the Zug Government Building. At that time, three members of the Government Council and eleven members of the Cantonal Council were killed. 15 other people were injured, some seriously.

The commemorative event begins at 8 p.m. in the church of St. Michael (St. Michaelskirche) in Zug. According to a notification from the canton, the certificate obligation (valid Covid certificate and valid official ID) now applies. In order to make the commemoration event accessible to a wide circle of interested parties, the commemoration will be broadcast free of charge via livestream.

Musical accompaniment
The clergymen Alfredo Sacchi, canon (Domherr) of the canton of Zug and cooperating priest in the parish of Steinhausen, as well as Andreas Haas, pastor of the Reformed parish of Zug-West in Zug, will conduct the commemoration, for which the Zug Sinfonietta and the Audite Nova Zug choir will provide the musical accompaniment. Under the direction of choirmaster Johannes Meister, they will premiere a work by the Zug composer Carl Rütti, among others.

Further signs of remembrance are planned for 27 September 2021. At noon, for example, church bells in the canton of Zug will ring out in memory of the victims of the Zug attack and all the victims of violence in the world. Furthermore, the graves of the deceased and the memorial site "Einschnitt" at the Government Building will be decorated with flowers. And finally, the Zug flag will be set at half-mast on the Government Building.
