Branch of Laederach chocolatiers opens in Metalli centre

Expats already enjoying living in a country where high quality chocolate is produced will be delighted to know the Läderach company opened a branch in the Metalli centre last Friday.

This new shop, which is actually the first to be opened by the company in the canton of Zug, is in the premises formerly occupied by the Bruno Iten jewellery shop.

Regular visitors to the centre may well have seen the windows announcing the imminent arrival of the business, which, incidentally, is headquartered in Ennenda in the canton of Glarus.

Expats are sure to have noticed other branches of the shop on Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse, in Lucerne and at Zurich airport. Indeed, the company, which was founded in 1962, now has no fewer than 60 shops across the country, and some in Germany, too.

According to spokeswoman Angela Vassella, the company has been planning a branch in Zug for some time, but they were waiting until an appropriate location came up.

What with a number of local confiseries in the canton and a branch of Sprüngli, too, there is no shortage of shops for those hooked on chocolate, or Schoggi as it is known in Swiss dialect. The Aeschbach chocolatier has branches in Steinhausen and Bahnhofstrasse in Zug, though production is now in Root in the neighbouring canton of Lucerne. Of note is that this company will be celebrating its 30th anniversary in October this year.

Asked if he was concerned about the arrival of a new competitor, managing director Markus Aeschbach said that, while every new tree cast its shadow, the company saw the products offered by Läderach more as a complement to the general range of products on offer, rather than as a competitor.
