29-year-old man missing since 11 August found dead in neighbouring canton

A 29-year-old man who had been missing since 11 August has been found dead below an area of steep woodland in the neighbouring canton of Schwyz.

Once the police had been made aware that the man, who came from Rotkreuz, had gone missing that Sunday, they immediately issued an appeal to the public for information, giving details of his VW car with ZG plates. This was duly found the following day in Gersau in the canton of Schwyz just beyond Vitznau whereupon an intensive search of the area by members of the Swiss Alpine Rescue Service, officers of a special mountain search unit of the police force of Schwyz using dogs and a helicopter, in addition to another provided by Rega, not to mention groups of individuals who also joined in.

It was actually a private individual who came across the body of the 29-year-old last Saturday morning at the foot of a steep woodland area in the Föhnenberg region of the canton, just two kilometres due east of Gersau. It appeared he had fallen 250 metres to his death.

As there is no evidence of any third party involved, the police are assuming it was an accident.
