Famous works on four grand pianos

The Gershwin Piano Quartet is made up of four pianists playing their own arrangements of famous works taken from throughout the history of music, on four grand pianos. With their blend of classic virtuoso and jazzy love of improvisation, their combination of lyrical dreaminess and irresistible rhythmic drive, they have built up a global reputation for the quality of their concerts. The Gershwin Piano Quartet’s focus is always on the personal versions of their chosen works, which go way beyond the usual boundaries of interpretation and range from transcriptions that are true to the original to actual new compositions, via improv and remix techniques. The Gershwin Piano Quartet was founded in Zurich in 1996. Their first concerts concentrated entirely on the music of George Gershwin himself, and the candour of style of the US composer still makes up an important element of the group’s repertoire. Over the years, they have impressively extended their range which now covers such music as a version of Rimsky-Korsakov’s «Scheherazade» with a whole host of loops and other techniques, and a new full interpretation of Gershwin’s «Concerto in F».
