Czech family from Chelsea
Kamil Toma, 45, and his wife Jana, 43, are among the very small number of Czech residents in the canton. They moved here with their 5-year-old son Sebastian and, until last Thursday when their national team was beaten 1:0 by Portugal, they, too, have been following the Euro 2012 football championships.
With Kamil coming from Plzen it is not surprising he is an expert on beer, as was his father. When he was a child, Kamil recounted how his father sent him out one lunch time for two litres of Pilsner beer in a jug. However, as the nearest pub which supplied it was 15 minutes' walk away, Kamil decided just to go to the nearest one and came back with Prazan beer instead. When his father took the first sip he recognised immediately that it was not Pilsner beer and promptly poured it away and gave his son a clip round the ear-hole.
Kamil, 45, moved to Zug only 1 year ago with 5-year-old son, Sebastian, and his 43-year-old wife Jana after she was appointed a portfolio manager with Stone Milliner Asset Management in Steinhausen.
Previously the family lived in London, where Kamil remains vice-chairman of the Motorola mobile phone company. "Sebastian was actually born in Chelsea," said Kamil proudly, adding that the Czech footballer Petr Cech plays for the club. In fact Cech also signed the shirt that Kamil wore as he supported his national team during Euro 2012. Not to be outdone, Jana wore a shirt signed by Czech ice-hockey player Jaromir Jagr.
The family now lives in a nice house with lovely views in Baar and Sebastian attends the International School in Walterswil. What they all particularly enjoy is being able to go skiing so easily.
