Copper thieves caught in dramatic arrest

Three copper thieves were arrested in the canton on Saturday afternoon following the theft of two feeding troughs from a farm near Sins in the neighbouring canton of Aargau.

One witness to the dramatic arrest, who had just returned from a shopping trip, said, "It was like a scene from an American film. I saw how police cars stopped a white delivery van with number-plates from the canton of Wallis and then watched as several policemen with pistols drawn rushed to open the van doors. They then pulled out three men and handcuffed them immediately. It all happened very quickly."

According to reports from the Aargau Cantonal Police, a woman from Sins had seen three men running away from a neighbouring farm at around 3 pm carrying copper feeding troughs. She then watched as they loaded them into a white van before they headed off towards Zug.

The Zug Police were immediately alerted and they happened to notice the van in question in Neuägeri at about 4.30 pm. After apprehending its occupants, who put up no resistance, the police discovered the two stolen copper feeding troughs in the back of the van.

According to the Aargau Cantonal Police, the thieves were Serbian men between 20 and 45 years of age, two of whom were resident in the canton of Zug, with the third a tourist in Switzerland.
