Contingent of Zug Police on loan to Davos
When Glencore CEO Ivan Glasenberg arrives at the World Economic Forum in Davos, he will be pleased to see that not only will the Swiss Army be there to ensure security, but officers from his local force, too.
Readers will no doubt be aware that WEF opened on Wednesday in the alpine skiing resort. As a result of the large number of politicians and leaders of the business world attending, security is very tight as usual, with a no-fly zone imposed over the area.
In addition to a contingent of officers from the Zug Police and soldiers of the Swiss Army, police from the Principality of Liechtenstein will also be helping along with Swiss frontier guards, private security companies and, of course, the local police of the canton of Graubünden.
Police spokesman, Marcel Schlatter, would not disclose exactly how many members of the Zug Police would be on loan to Davos but the contingent is large enough to mean that the police substations in the municipalities of Rotkreuz, Hünenberg, Steinhausen, Unterägeri and Menzingen have been closed since Monday and will remain so until next Monday. However, the police stations in the city, Baar and Cham will be open as normal.
Schlatter said that the reduced amount of police officers on duty in the canton would not affect security and the public need not be concerned.
