Motorcyclists fined in road-side spot checks

The Zug Police made spot checks on motorcyclists as they drove through Oberwil on Friday evening, with some of the latter now facing fines for driving their vehicles in an unroadworthy state.

The police, in conjunction with officers from the road traffic licensing department, made checks on 55 vehicles. Overall, the motorcycles were found to be in a good condition but some owners were fined for various infringements such as driving without a licence or for technical defects. Also checked were five especially tuned cars, one of which was ordered off the road.

In an unrelated incident on Saturday evening, a battery was thrown at a bus, breaking two windows.

The incident took place as the ZVB bus driven by a lady driver was heading through Steinhausen on its way to the Zugerland Shopping Centre at 8.20 pm. Suddenly  passengers were shocked as two windows were smashed. Fortunately neither the driver nor any of the passengers was hurt, but damage to the extent of CHF 5,000 was caused.

It appeared the perpetrator hid in an orchard by the side of the road between 47 and 51 Hinterbergstrasse. The Zug Police have since made an appeal for anyone who might be able to provide them with further information to contact them on 041 728 41 41.
