Cantonal Hospital plans new office block

The Cantonal Hospital in Baar is planning to build a new office block to allow more space to be freed up for out-patient treatment in the main building.

As the director of the hospital, Matthias Winistörfer, explained, the extra space in the main building is needed as a result of the expected increase in demand for treatment related to the increase in population over the coming five years.

A number of different ways of increasing space at the hospital were looked at, including the addition of further floors on the main building and a new building to the west. However, as Hans Haueter of the Burckhardt+Partner AG firm of architects explained, it was thought best if a new building were built to the south. Fortunately, with it planned to be only one floor higher than the main building, the latter’s façade will only be minimally affected.

No new car parking spaces are planned, with visitors able to use the facility on Landhausstrasse to the north-east.

As to the cost of the new building, Winistörfer declined to comment, other than to say it would be of a functional nature and that buildings housing offices were cheaper, of course, than those for hospital use.
