Another Lucerne bakery comes to town

Yet another Lucerne-based bakery is moving to Zug. Following in the footsteps of local rivals Heini and Bachmann, Hug is now set to open a shop in Zug.

Despite fears of saturation, the Zug market seems to be capable of almost unlimited expansion. There are currently a baker's dozen of bakeries in the city – 13 to be precise, or one for every 2,000 inhabitants – and these figures do not include the bakery outlets in Migros and Coop stores. There were 10 local bakeries already and these have been joined in recent years by Lucerne bakeries Heini (who have a confectioner's with café on the Bundesplatz) and Bachmann (who have a confectioner's and also serve take-away food in the Metalli centre). Zurich-based confectioner's Sprüngli have also opened an outlet in Zug.

These three, and the other local ten, are being joined by another big-hitter from Lucerne, with Hug setting up an outlet in March in a prime location in the station right next to track four, where Lucerne-bound trains come into Zug from Zurich.
