Alternative-Green Party nominates Andreas Lustenberger

The Alternative Green Party of Zug has nominated Andreas Lustenberger as its candidate to stand for election to the Council of States in Bern this autumn.

The 29-year-old is already a member of the Zug cantonal parliament representing Baar. As his party said in a statement issued on Thursday, with his knowledge of geography, Lustenberger will be able to bring a deeper insight into planning issues. Furthermore, as co-president of the Green Party of Switzerland, he is familiar with matters relating to politics at national level. He was a leading figure in the campaign to prevent the City Tunnel from being built and is very much an advocate of public transport and increased density in any further building developments. In his time he has also worked for the Swiss National Park in Zernez in the canton of Graubünden.

For generations, members of the CVP and FDP parties have represented Zug in the Council of States, the smaller of the two parliamentary chambers in Bern. One of the current representatives there is Peter Bieri, 63, of the CVP party, who is standing down after 21 years’ service. Peter Hegglin, the current cantonal director of finance, is hoping to take over his role on 18 October, when the elections are held. Joachim Eder, also 63, of the FDP party, is standing for re-election.

Representatives of three other parties, namely Manuel Brandenberger of the SVP party, Barbara Gysel of the SP party, both cantonal parliamentarians, and now Andreas Lustenberger, each hope to take over one of the seats occupied by Bieri and Eder.
