All change for the better around Göblistrasse

Much is planned to be changed in the area of Göblistrasse on the northern edges of the city with part of the Arbach brook opened up and new recreational facilities provided, prior to a new development being built in the area.

Speaking to a journalist of the Zuger Zeitung, city engineer Jascha Hager explained that, in this area, the Arbach brook was currently fed through a pipe, but it was planned to open up 300-metres of it. Then, the course of Göblistrasse is to be altered, too, as is the cycle-path between Baarermattstrasse and Lauriedhofweg.

While work on this CHF 2.7 million project is not expected to start before autumn and will take several months, it is due to be completed before work starts on the Lüssi Göbli residential development in the same area.

Göblistrasse itself is actually to be moved northwards, near to the border with the municipality of Baar. Then a gravel footpath starting from Lauriedhofweg is to be built alongside it with the newly opened-up stream on one side and an avenue of trees planted on the other. As Hager explained, this will mean there will be no more roads without adjacent pavements in the city.

As to the recreational area, this will feature a turfed area for children to play as well as a pergola with both traditional seats and others made of wood with a slight rocking action. Then, a series of concrete steps, able to be used for seating, too, will also be built. Interestingly, one part of the stream will be dammed up slightly to enable children to play in the water. However, it is being designed in such a way that the natural flow of the stream and its vegetation will not be adversely affected. “While children are able to play, others will simply be able to relax and take it all in,” added Hager.

As to when construction might start on the afore-mentioned Lüssi Göbli development, Guido Speck of the Zuger Kantonalbank, who is representing the community of some 50 heirs behind it, said certain aspects of planning permission were still outstanding and only after the reconfiguration of Göblistrasse and alterations to the Arbach stream would work begin in earnest.
