AGM of EVZ all over in 22 minutes

The AGM of the EVZ Ice Hockey Club and the EVZ Holding AG company was held at the Legends Club at the Bossard Arena on Monday 27 October with chairman of the board Roland Staerkle racing through the agenda in just 22 minutes.

As reported last week, the club had earlier announced it had recorded a deficit of CHF 122,204 for the year 2013, accounted for mainly by transfer costs and fewer ticket sales (see article of 22 October). However, Patrick Lengwiler, the CEO of EVZ, put this loss into perspective by explaining that much investment had gone into LED (advertising) bands and that the costs arising out of the dismissal of Canadian coach Doug Shedden and sporting director Jakob Horak had also been included in the 2013 accounts.

It seemed the shareholders were satisfied with these explanations and no questions were asked, perhaps on account of the club showing a significant amount of self criticism itself. Both Lengwiler and Staerkle admitted in a written statement "that EVZ had made mistakes in the run-up to and during the 2013-14 season. However, what has now been decided on for the medium and long term is right. We have now laid a solid foundation to ensure success for the club both financially and on the sporting front."

All members of the board, i.e. Staerkle, Hans-Peter Strebel, Andreas Bachmann, Adrian Müller and Adrian Risi (who was not present on the occasion), were all unanimously re-elected. This means that this is in fact the ninth season that Staerkle has been in charge.

As to individual players, hope was expressed that Rafael Diaz (photograph), a Swiss NHL professional currently on contract with the Canadian Calgary Flames club, might actually return to play for EVZ.
