72 road-users fined for various offences

No fewer than 13 motorists and 59 cyclists were fined in a major crackdown on driving and cycling offences in the city last Friday.
 
According to the police, the checks were made after a number of complaints had been made by locals in recent days.
 
Six drivers were fined for causing avoidable noise with their vehicles, one for setting off with screeching tyres. Three others were fined for failing to halt at the appropriate demarcated line, with a further four fined for failing to stop at red.
 
As mentioned, 59 cyclists were fined, 24 of whom for cycling in areas where it was prohibited, 32 for cycling on pavements, three for cycling through red lights and one for failing to hold the handlebars.
