30,745 companies registered in the canton

According to the Cantonal Department of Economic Development (VWD) the total number of companies registered in the canton in 2014 was 30,745. This compares with 30,397 at the end of 2013 and thereby represents an increase of 348.
 
The number of firms newly registered in 2014 amounted to amounted to 2,110, compared with 2,044 in the previous year.
 
Of the types of companies registered, as in previous years, the most popular were corporations (companies with AG for AktienGesellschaft after their names) and limited liability companies (firms with GmbH after their names standing for Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung).
 
By far the most popular form of company were the AGs, of which there were 17,502, and GmbHs, of which there were 8,279, actually up by 330.
 
As in previous years, the VWD also had to deal with all those companies and one-man businesses which no longer conformed to the legal requirements. These included those, for example, which showed lack of organisation in matters concerning administration, representation and auditing, or companies providing no address or giving a false one. These were called upon to rectify these inaccuracies or omissions otherwise they faced being erased from the register.
